Dal for a fulfilling spice-packed meal

Ingredients

(3-4 portions)

  • Chopped Tomatoes

  • Red Lentils

  • Spices: Turmeric Powder, Chilli Powder, Coriander Powder, Mustard Seeds, Cumin Seeds *Feel free to swap or add your preferred spices

  • Ginger Paste

(optional)

  • Spinach


Instructions


  1. Wash the lentils.

  2. Soak them for min 20 minutes or max 3 hours (optional).

  3. In a pot, heat 1 tbsp oil, and add mustard seeds. Once they crackle, add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, and cook for 40-60 seconds.

  4. Add tomatoes and cook for 3-4 minutes. Then add ginger paste and cook for 20-30 seconds, stirring occasionally.

  5. Drain the soaked lentils and add them to the pot. Then add salt.

  6. Add water (double the quantity of lentils used).

  7. You can also add sugar, and lemon (optional).

  8. Let it cook for 15 minutes, and then add chopped spinach and cook for another 5-10 minutes or until the dal is completely cooked.
